At KrellTech, we are excited to announce the release of our latest polishing technology innovation – the MMC Connector and TMT Ferrule Workholder. This new tool is engineered specifically for the advanced MMC connectors and TMT ferrules, optimizing the precision polishing process for these photonic components. 

Overview of MMC Connectors and TMT Ferrules  

The MMC connector is a cutting-edge development in optical connectivity, featuring a new, reduced-size MT-style ferrule known as the TMT, within a very small form factor (VSFF) connector embodiment. This configuration offers high density and low insertion loss, streamlining the complexities typically associated with MPO cabling infrastructure through simplified gender and polarity management.  

Employing a push-pull technology, the MMC connector facilitates the highest functional fiber density available, critical for minimizing space in applications such as structured cabling, high fiber count data center interconnects, transceivers, and on-board optics. The TMT ferrule is compliant with IEC standards for precision alignment, accommodating a range of fiber sizes and ensuring low loss and high return loss performance crucial for today's demanding applications.

To ensure that the polishing of these sophisticated components meets the highest standards, KrellTech has developed a workholder that exemplifies versatility and efficiency. Here’s how our new MMC Connector and TMT Ferrule workholder is set to transform the polishing process:  

  • Configurable Positions: MMC Workholders are available for all KrellTech polishers and can be configured with 1 (Proton) to 24 polishing positions (Dual Scepter), providing flexibility for various production scales.  
  • Tool-less Loading: Our tool-less loading feature significantly reduces setup times, streamlining the polishing process and allowing operators to concentrate on achieving the best quality.  
  • Supports for all TMT Ferrule Types: The MMC Workholder is designed to support both the 16 and 24 fiber TMT ferrule configurations. 
  • Integrated Quality Checks: Compatibility with KrellTech's in-line video inspection systems ensures that quality control can be performed while the connectors are loaded in the workholder.  
  • Patented Optical Alignment and Independent Suspension: Each polishing position integrates a suspension design providing z-axis movement independent to adjacent position. Additionally, each position is optically aligned for superior endface geometry control and performance.
