Orbit™ Bare Fiber Coning and Chisel System

Sept. 22, 2023, 8:16 p.m.
Q
We have a orbit bare fiber polishing system but the holders we have on accommodate a 125um polyimide to 155um. Now we are using a 125um fiber coated with single layer acrylate bringing dia up to 175um. Do you offer chisel tip fiber holders that will fit a 175um fiber?
A
Yes, we can fabricate Fiber Adapters for fibers with diameters from 80um to >2mm. We will send you a quotation for a 175um Fiber Adapter.

Q
Hi, I'm interested in polishing the edge facets of sapphire-substrate photonic chips. I would like to know which polishing pads are available to polish sapphire (available grain sizes etc) and how to order them.
A
Sapphire components require diamond polishing film. We will send you a listing of available diamond grit abrasives.

Q
Hi, I'm organising a Stores rearrangement project in the UK. Do your polishing films require specific storage conditions i.e. temperature, should they be stored in the dark, humidity etc?
A
Standard ambient environmental conditions are fine. Also, no need to storage in darkness, it is suggested to avoid direct sunlight to prevent product fading.

General

Oct. 7, 2022, 9:21 a.m.
Q
Of the four abrasive materials you offer (silicon carbide, aluminium oxide, silicon dioxide, cerium oxide), which material do you recommend for polishing 125um diameter optical fibre (PANDA PM and SM)?
A
The suggested film types will be dependent upon whether the fiber is being polished bare, or if connectorized. Silicon carbide and aluminum oxide are typically used for bare fibers. Connectorized fiber uses silicon carbide, diamond and silicon dioxide. Please advise your required film diameter.
