Q&A ROUNDUP

Proton™ Field and FTTX Polisher

Feb. 20, 2026, 6:56 a.m.
Q
Any MPO jigs for the Proton?
A
Yes, we do offer MPO workholder jigs for the Proton polisher. They are available for both flat and angle polishing. Please note that Proton uses 2" diameter films and MT processing tends to wear these films fairly quickly. This is typically acceptable for low-volume or repair applications.

NOVA™ Bare Fiber Polishing System

Feb. 4, 2026, 4:37 p.m.
Q
Does the KrellTech bare fiber polisher need calibration?
A
Since the bare fiber polisher features angle adjustability, it is not aligned to a particular orientation and does not require any routine calibration.

NOVA™ Workholder for PICs/Waveguides, Fiber Arrays, and Optical Chips

Aug. 8, 2025, 6:42 p.m.
Q
Does clamping force or rigidity play a role in preventing chipping of thin films on SiN?
A
There are a number of variables that can contribute to chipping, especially proper clamping force. We also offer a pressure applicator that holds the chip against the waveguide mounting plate. https://krelltech.com/items/waveguide-pressure-applicator/. Also, diamond films tend to "cut" cleaner.

General

Aug. 30, 2024, 1:02 p.m.
Q
Hello, currently have both Aluminum Oxide & Silicon Carbide PSA 4" pads that we use to polish Glass Die facets. Can you advise on advantages of one type over another? We use these for optical polish after grind.
A
For a particular abrasive "grit" size, silicon carbide particles are harder and sharper than aluminum oxide. SC will cut a surface faster, but AO will typically provide a smoother finish.
